The Livingston Health Department, in conjunction with Saint Barnabas Medical Center, will offer a free Stroke Risk Assessment Screening on Monday, September 9, 2019, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at the Livingston Senior/Community Center, Craft Room 1.
The screening will include tests for blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose, along with a brief nursing consultation.
Each year, about 795,000 people in the United States have a stroke. A stroke occurs when either blood clots or particles block blood vessels to the brain or a blood vessel in the brain bursts. While there are some risk factors that cannot be controlled, such as age and race/ethnicity, there are many ways to reduce your risk of having a stroke.
Lifestyle changes such as increased physical activity, healthier eating, and efforts to control high blood pressure can all help decrease your stroke risk.
The Stroke Risk Assessment Screening on May 9 at the Livingston Senior/Community Center is free and will help you understand your risk of having a stroke and what you can do to lower it. The screening will test blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose and will include a brief nursing consultation.
Registration for the Screening is required. For questions, or to pre-register, please contact Jessica or Melissa in the Livingston Health Department at 973-535-7961 ext. 227 or 228.
