The Livingston Health Department, in conjunction with Saint Barnabas Medical Center, will offer a free Stroke Risk Assessment Screening on Thursday, September 27, 2018, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at the Livingston Senior/Community Center, Craft Room 1.
The screening will include tests for blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose, along with a brief nursing consultation.
Zhanna Berman, BSN, RN, APN-BC, a board-certified nurse practitioner from Saint Barnabas Medical Center, will conduct the screening.
Each year, about 795,000 people in the United States have a stroke. A stroke occurs when either blood clots or particles block blood vessels to the brain or a blood vessel in the brain bursts. While there are some risk factors that cannot be controlled, such as age and race/ethnicity, there are many ways to reduce your risk of having a stroke.
Lifestyle changes such as increased physical activity, healthier eating, and efforts to control high blood pressure can all help decrease your stroke risk.
The Stroke Risk Assessment Screening on September 27 at the Livingston Senior/Community Center is free and will help you understand your risk of having a stroke and what you can do to lower it.
Registration for the Screening is required. For questions, or to pre-register, please contact Jessica or Melissa in the Livingston Health Department at 973-535-7961 ext. 227 or 228.
