Vital Statistics

The Bureau of Vital Statistics is open to the public and taking walk-ins. However, records can still be requested by mail. Find hours of operation and more information here.

Birth Certificates, Death Certificates, and Marriage/Civil Union/Partnership Licenses are only available at the Livingston Health Department. Located in the Livingston Senior/Community Center.

About the Bureau of Vital Statistics

The Bureau of Vital Statistics is conducted under the supervision of the Township Registrar. The Registrar’s office is required to see that all births, marriages, deaths, civil unions and partnerships that take place within the Township of Livingston borders are properly recorded locally and with the State Vital Statistic Office in Trenton. Certified copies of vital statistics records, marriage, civil union and partnership licenses, and burial permits are issued by this division. Census track mortality statistics are also kept on file.

Applications

The Bureau of Vital Statistics accepts walk-in applications to obtain a copy of a vital record at the location above. Office hours are 8:30 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays. You must submit your application by 4 pm to obtain your certified copy the same day.

To apply for a Marriage / Civil Union / Partnership License or to make a change to a vital record, please contact the office at 973-535-7961, ext. 222 to schedule an appointment.

Payment

We accept most major credit cards in person. Cash or credit / debit card only in person, money order only through the mail.
