Construction Debris

Any materials that are the result of demolition, alterations, or repairs to buildings, homes, or other structures are not part of regular or bulk trash collection.

Homeowners or their contractors must, by law, arrange for removal of any of these materials.

Construction debris is not picked up by the Township’s regular garbage collection vendor on regular or bulk collection days. 

The following materials will not be collected by the Township’s solid waste collector:

  • Ashes
  • Household Hazardous Waste (including, but not limited to paint, paint thinners, solvents, gasoline, car batteries, household cleaning fluids, etc.)
  • Trees (other than branches in bundles)
  • Stumps
  • Automobile parts (other than tires)
  • Stones
  • Rocks
  • Bricks
  • Soil
  • Sod
  • Concrete
  • Wood pallets
  • Materials resulting from demolition, alternations, or repairs to buildings or other structures
  • Combustible, explosive, or caustic materials
  • Electronics (including, but not limited to computer monitors, televisions, computer CPUs, copiers, fax machines, laptops, cell phones, telephones, stereos, PDAs)
  • Other appliances/Scrap Metal (including, but not limited to refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, washers, dryers, desks, auto parts)
  • Designated recyclable material per Township Ordinance 40-2008 and 2006 Solid Waste Management Plan per Essex County Utilities Authority website.

Disposing of Debris

Arranging for Disposal of Construction-Related Trash/Debris

In order to dispose of construction or demolition materials or other residential bulky waste that cannot be picked up, residents may choose to:

  • have their contractor or an appropriately licensed hauler properly dispose of the debris, 
  • secure a dumpster themselves, or 
  • bring the materials to one of Essex County’s contracted waste disposal sites (call for drop-off hours):

      Drop-off hours: Wednesday 2:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M., Saturday 9:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.

Residents are responsible for arranging for the proper disposal of all such materials.
