Why do I have to recycle electronics?

By law, electronic items must be recycled separately and cannot be put out and collected with regular trash.

Other Special Items

  • Fluorescent bulbs: Fluorescent lightbulbs of all shapes, up to 4 feet long, will be collected. There is a limit of 6 bulbs per resident. NO broken bulbs. To comply with hazardous materials handling, there is no early drop allowed off for bulbs.
  • Rechargeable batteries: These collection events now include drop-off of rechargeable lithium, NiCad, sealed lead-acid (rectangular alarm or exit light types) and power tool batteries. Volume is limited. Early drop-off is prohibited, as it creates a serious fire hazard. Rechargeable batteries can also be dropped off at an Essex County Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Event. (Note: Ordinary alkaline batteries should go in your household trash.)
