About Us

Livingston Youth and Community Services (LYCS) is a community based after-school program that teaches leadership skills, healthy choices and life skills to Grades 1 to 12 in Livingston school district.

Mission & Goals

The mission of LYCS is to reduce the early onset of substance abuse and provide healthy alternative activities for Livingston youth. Our program is designed to:

  • Teach healthy life choices and the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs to Livingston’s youth.
  • Train Leaders and provide opportunities to practice leadership skills by participating in community service activities and community programs.
  • Provide opportunities for Livingston youth to engage in healthy social interactions.
  • Build stronger healthy families through workshops and programs.

Program Types

Our curriculum is developmentally age appropriate. LYCS is comprised of five programs:

  • Young Leaders (Grade 1 and Grade 2) meet after school. Meeting days and dates vary.
  • Leaders (Grades 3, 4 and 5) meet after school. Meeting days and dates vary. 
  • Grade 5 Leaders Club meet in the evening. Pizza & snacks are provided. Students choose topics of interest, and a community service. This provides an opportunity students to meet others from different schools before going into middle school next year.
  • Peer Leaders (Grades 6, 7, and 8) meet in the evening. Pizza & snacks are provided. Students choose all topics, Adopt-a-Charity, and coordinate Time4Teens newsletter.
  • Community Leaders Club (Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12) meet in the evening. Pizza & snacks are provided. This is a student-led organization. In addition students have the opportunity to participate in cross-age teaching and leadership training.

Class Schedule & Event Information

Classes start in the Fall through Spring. In addition, LYCS provides opportunities for community service, engages youth in expressive arts programs, co-sponsors alternative activities with DARE/Community Policing and SYLS, and collaborates on community programming.

LYCS is program of the Township of Livingston Department of Senior, Youth and Community Services and is funded in part by the Livingston Municipal Alliance Committee (LMAC).
