SHINING STAR SPORTS LEAGUE FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN

Soccer - Basketball - Floor Hockey - T-Ball/Baseball

Registration is in full swing for the inaugural Winter Floor Hockey League.  Enrollment will remain open for residents and non-residents until Friday, February 3 at noon.

The Winter Floor Hockey will run on Saturdays from February 4 to March 31, with the exception of February 18.

sportsForty-four children and teens came out for the big soccer kickoff! Dozens registered for fall soccer, a new “Shining Star” Sports League: A League for Exceptional Children, offered by the new Senior, Youth and Leisure Services League for Children with Special Needs.

The league was formed so that exceptional children can experience belonging to their own sports league. Socialization, learning, competition, and having fun are the goals of the league.

The program, open to residents and non-residents, ran from Sept. 17 to Nov. 6, 9:30-10:30 am for the junior league for ages 5-9 and 11:00 am to noon for the senior league for ages 10-16 at the Monmouth Court Community Center, rain or shine (on the soccer fields or in the gym).

Shining Star basketball began on November 19; same times and location. Other programs to be offered include floor hockey and t-ball/baseball. The fee is $75 per sport.

To register, visit http://livingstonsyls.org or enroll at the SYLS office at the Livingston Senior/Community Center on Hillside Avenue, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, including program qualifications, and volunteer signup (training will be provided), contact SYLS Adaptive Recreation Coordinator Mark Silance at (973) 535-7925 or email msilance@livingstonnj.org.

LACD AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS PROGRAM
2011-2012

We launched our oldie but goodie favorite, the "LACD After School Sports Program for Children with Special Needs" at Monmouth Court on October 12, which runs weekly on Wednesdays through the end of May.

This program is unique to Livingston in many ways: it is FREE and open to residents and non-residents, their friends and families; no pre-registration is required; children and their families may drop-in any Wednesday all year (with a few date exceptions due to holidays, as noted in the advisory); and sports activities and games vary from week to week to keep things interesting!

Volunteers and parents of the participants report they "feel like they are walking on air when they leave each week, because there is such an outpouring of support and encouragement in this program, with so many familiar faces from Livingston throughout the years."
