Livingston residents are encouraged to bring their old or unwanted electronics to Essex County’s Spring Electronics Recycling Event on Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 9 am – 3 pm, at Essex County Fleet Maintenance (Public Works), 99 West Bradford Avenue, Cedar Grove, NJ 07009.

The Essex County event will offer residents the opportunity to dispose of unwanted electronics and small appliances, whether the items are working or not. The Essex County Utilities Authority offers a list of the materials that will be accepted at the event:

  • Computers
  • Monitors
  • Printers
  • Fax Machines

The vendor the Township has been using for electronics recycling events has recently filed for bankruptcy, leaving the Township without a full-service vendor to handle events. Livingston is now in the process of evaluating different options and vendors in order to properly secure future Electronics Recycling dates.

Previous electronics recycling events have been very successful, generating revenue for the Township from New Jersey’s Municipal Recycling Tonnage Grant Program. This will be Livingston’s thirteenth year hosting electronics recycling events. The Township expects to announce Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding events in the near future.

Electronics recycling is mandatory in New Jersey. Items cannot be placed at the curb for collection, according to New Jersey state law and the Township’s recycling ordinance.

While the Township will not be able to hold a spring event this year due to the existing vendor's bankruptcy and time needed to obtain another qualified vendor, Livingston is working to hold Electronics Recycling events in June and October, as usual.

The County event offers an alternative to those who may not be able to wait until June.

Once established, the dates for the Township’s Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding events will be made available on the Township website and calendar, and through print and social media. Residents can follow Livingston Township, NJ on Facebook and @Livingston_NJ on Twitter for Township news, events, and announcements.
