Livingston's Street-Naming Contest is Now Live!
“Formosa Plastics Road” will soon have a new name, and residents will be on the front lines of the change.
Livingston’s Township Council members announced recently that there will be a contest to rename Formosa Plastics Road. The road has been privately owned by Formosa Plastics Corporation since establishing its headquarters in Livingston in 1990. The owner has recently offered to give the street to the Township, giving the Council this opportunity to rename the street.
Contest entry suggestions may be quickly and easily submitted beginning on Thursday, October 25, 2018 through the official online contest entry form (direct URL: livingstonnj.org/StreetName). Those without computer access will find hard copies of the official entry form at Town Hall, 357 S. Livingston Avenue. Hard copy entries can be completed and submitted to the Township Clerk’s Office at Town Hall.
Entries will only be accepted through (1) the online form on the website or (2) a hard copy of the official entry form submitted through the Clerk’s office.
The deadline for all entries to be received is Friday, November 30, 2018, at 12:00 noon.
On the first scheduled Council meeting in December – Monday, December 3, 2018 – the members of the Township Council will discuss the contest entries.
While the Council has chosen to hold a contest to name the street, the final decision on the street’s new name will be up to the Council members. The new name of the street will be announced on January 1, 2019, at the Township’s Annual Reorganization Meeting.
Residents are urged to be thoughtful in their entries. All are advised in advance that names along the lines of “Roady McRoadface” will not be considered.
