REMINDER: Township Employees will Provide Official Identification

Permits/Licenses Required

Often, businesses will apply for, and receive, a license to go door to door in town selling a product or service. 

Residents are never required to open a door or listen to any solicitor.

The Township has recently received resident complaints that some individuals with permits for door to door sales have misrepresented themselves as actually working for the town. 

Proper Identification

Official Township employees will always have an official Township badge, will identify themselves properly, and will state their specific reason for contacting you in person at your home.

If you have any concerns about individuals who show up at your door and are soliciting at your home, you do not have to open the door or go outside. 

If an individual states that they are working for the town, they should provide you with identification and offer a phone number at town hall where you can confirm that they are official Township employees.

Should you feel uncomfortable or threatened by any statements made to you by a door-to-door salesperson, please contact the Police Department right away at 973-992-3000.
